BYU : Football
52 Days and counting

With BYU's football opener just 52 days away people need to start getting ready. BYU opens the season at home against Arizona who beat us last year, which makes it clear that we are out for revenge. Also, we play UCLA who has a former Cougar as their starting QB. I'm sure we will show him what he is missing out on. Plus, who can forget that memorable game against Utah last year. This year will be even better because we get them at home in Lavell Edwards Stadium. Fui Vakapuna was having a very good year last year until his ankle injury and luckily he is only a junior, which means we will hopefully have him for 2 more years. Also, Austin Collie, who set a couple BYU freshman receiving records and was named a freshman all-american, is back from his mission and hopes to take the Cougars to a BCS bowl game. Even though we did lose John Beck to the Dolphins we do have Max Hall who went to the same high school as Beck and is supposed to be very good. If he can step in right where Beck left off then the Cougars will be looking at a great season. Finally, don't forget about their defense, which is often forgotten because of their dominating offense, who gave up only 14 points a game last season and should be even better this year. So here's to another MWC championship this year and hopefully some more national respect for BYU's football program. Good luck Bronco and boys.

Rain couldn't put damper on Cougars home opener

a-curtis_brown_Tulsa.jpg
With their offense back in full force, the Cougars posted an impressive 49-24 win over the Tulsa Golden Hurricane on Saturday.
The rain tried to put a damper on the afternoon by delaying the game for 40 minutes, but the Cougar faithful stuck around during the delay and were able to see the Cougars pull off their first win of the season.
The run game really gave us something to cheer about as we saw a couple powerful runs by Curtis Brown and Fui Vakapuna. Curtis Brown not only had a couple of impressive runs, but he also gained a total of 207 yards from scrimmage.
The Cougars have possibly their biggest challenge of the season next week when they play in Chestnut Hill, MA against the Boston College Eagles. The Eagles just came off a big win against 18th ranked Clemson in double overtime. The game against the Eagles will be shown on ESPN2 at 12pm this upcoming Saturday.

Senior Night at the Holy War
A nother graet.jpg What a finish from the Utes and Cougars in Lavell Edwards Stadium. It started out with a sky blue day, and ended in the dusk of the sun setting with the Cougar’s twenty-nine seniors being honored at the end of the game. The Utes were the ones with an injured star quarterback, Brian Johnson, and wide receiver, but still pulled out the victory. It was John Beck’s tenth 300 yard passing game, as the cougars pushed the Utes into OT. The first half started off slow, with the Utes dominating on all sides of the ball. Two strait touchdowns were scored before the Cougars even put something on the scoreboard, with the score being 14-3. Utah not taking much of it came right back scoring ten points before the end of the half, halftime score being 24-3. Bronco Mendenhall went into the half time saying this

Wyoming next, Cougars need one victory for bowl game
Amazing%20fans.jpg toddy%20boy.jpg Our Cougars play the Wyoming Cowboys on Saturday, November 12th at 4:00 pm. Wyoming is coming off of four straight losses while BYU has two consecutive wins under thier belts. Our offense is playing so well scoring a combined 117 points in our last two games. Todd Watkins has 7 touchdowns this season as his senior year is coming to an end, but his football career could only be starting as he is looking to get drafted in the up coming NFL draft. He has been making highlight catches all year, but the Cougars are going to be looking to run on the Cowboys the whole game. Look for that long bomb to Watkins that we all love to see. The Utes beating up on the cowboys was a good indicater that we will time manage the game clock a lot by running the ball and keeping pressure on their trigger happy quarterback who has more interceptions than tuchdowns. Interceptions will happen in this game, and so will lots of tuchdowns. We need this victory or the next to make our team bowl elidgeable because right now we are 5-4, so getting to 6 wins will put us over the top to go to a bowl game. Next week is the Holy War against the Utes, so we need to wear blue. Go Cougars.
Cougars beat Rebels in Mountain West Fashion
Mendenall%20and%20Lamb.jpg With four rushing touchdowns and three passing TD's, the cougars beat UNLV 55-14. In the picture is Head Coach Bronco Mendenhall and Assistant Barry Lamb leading their strong defense to three interceptions versus the Rebels. Our coach thought we played well, but they created a lot of points off of turnovers, and need to keep up their offense. Up next week is the Wyoming Cowboys in the flat land of Laramie. We need to support our players, so get your rides together for a road trip to Wyoming this weekend. Go Cougars.
Curtis Brown Rolls On, UNLV Tommorow
curtis%20brown.jpg Curtis Brown had 25 carries for 219 yards in the 62-41 win versus Air Force. He also had 4 touchdowns with an average of 8.7 yards per carry. During the game it changed from a cold, rainy day in the first half, to a bright sunny day in the victory over the Falcons. Up next is the UNLV Rebels with a 2-6 record, and Quinton Ganther their running back is coming of a 150 yard game with three TD's. The cougars are going to have to play tough defense with their cougar man set up. We should all be watching the game and cheering on our cougars.
BYU 50 TCU 51 (OT)

John%20Beck%202.JPG

I couldn't believe my eyes when i saw that the cougars, after leading the whole game, went into overtime with the Horned Frogs. It was a amazing showing of the BYU offense the first three quarters, with their offense totaling over 600 yards. Each time John Beck completed 30 of his 51 attempts, with 517 yards passing, it seemed as though the cougars had the game in the back pocket. Then the second string quarterback for TCU, Jeff Ballard, stepped in during the fourth quarter and broght the horned frogs back into the game. The game did end in contriversy as Cory Rodgers was hit at the goal line and scored. The only problem was the ball came loose, whether or not it was a fumble before it hit the plane of the endzone, no one knows. The play was under....

New Cougar Blue

New Jerseys (2).gif

The Cougars have gone old school in their jerseys, bringing back the navy blue basic jerseys. The change hopefully is better than the old gold and blue jerseys. The helmets have changed also, along with the logo in the center of the field has been repainted.

LaVell Edwards Stadium

It's a fresh start for Bronco Mendenhall, the new BYU football coach, as he tries to rally his troop to a post season. The stadium itself holds 65,000 with one color video board, and another black and white screen. The staidum was built in 1964 and is still going strong. Here are the football results and the rest of the schedule:
