"Last year, we saw teams like College of Charleston and Oral Roberts make it to the Super Regional round. But I think this year we're going to see even more of that. This year there hasn't been any dominant teams in my opinion. Even some the top five teams in the country - Vanderbilt, Rice, Texas, Florida State... they've all had times during the season where they looked more than vulnerable. So I think we're going to see even more upsets and a more wide-open field in this year's NCAA tournament."

It's a Torero nation... we're all just living in it.

San Diego took the bull by the horns and threw together one of the best weeks in the history of college baseball Mid-Major-dom. The Toreros not only got a three-game sweep of rival Pepperdine, but also got one of their games televised by CSTV, got a surfing lesson posted on the Going Yard guys' blogsite and also got one of the best interviews I've ever done the Sunday before with Coach Rich Hill.

Yes coach, I've drunk the grape juice, caught a wave or two and listened to Jack Johnson. I too, now believe it is indeed a great time to be a Torero.

This could be one of the greatest weekends in Mid-Major history coming up. The marquee matchup sees No. 15 Pepperdine play a huge three-gamer at cozy Cunningham Stadium, where No. 21 San Diego calls home. Not only that, but the much-anticipated Evansville-Wichita State series will also help shake out the Missouri Valley race too.

And just in case you were wondering about the quality of these mid-major programs, Baseball America this week called Wichita's Travis Banwart and Aaron Shafer as the best one-two starting mound combo in the country. No. 2 behind them? USD's Brian Matusz and Josh Romanski. Bitchin' stuff man.

The Mid-Major Top 10

Why a Mid-Major Top 10? So that when some of these teams do what Oral Roberts, College of Charleston, Evansville, Wichita State and Manhattan did in last year's NCAA Regionals, you won't be left saying, "Whoa! Where did these guys come from?" You'll know, they came from here and, as usual, played better than their seeding.

Besides, have you seen what the mid-majors have done to teams like Vanderbilt and North Carolina this week?
