Pre-season WNIT Final Coming up...

COLLEGE PARK, Md- Before the season, when this LSU/Maryland match-up was a possibility, everyone probably looked to the All-American center battle between Crystal Langhorne and Sylvia Fowles.

That one-on-one clash is hardly the story of this game though.

First off, Langhorne is nursing a foot injury and has only played one game so far—scoring just two points against Oklahoma. She is questionable for the game today.

Secondly, even if Langhorne does play, it is unlikely she will be covering Fowles on the defensive end. Expect the 6-foot-4-inch Laura Harper to draw that unenviable task.

The real match-up to watch is between swing players Quianna Chaney of LSU and Marissa Coleman of Maryland--each of whom do a little bit of everything for their respective teams.

The Lady Tigers have not given up more than 54 points yet this season. That will likely change today. Expect a high-scoring affair, because the Terrapins like to run, and LSU should have no problem keeping up.

It may be the finals of the preseason WNIT, but neither of these teams will be showing up in the postseason WNIT. Each has its own realistic goal of reaching the Final Four. LSU has done it four straight years, while Maryland is trying to build a legacy of its own.
