And it's over

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - FSU has won its fourth game in the last five meetings with the Gators, though this one could have easily gone to the Gators.

The Seminoles won it 81-78 after Florida guard Depree Bowden's desperation three-pointer fell short as time ran out.

A full write-up with stats, player of the game, and what lies ahead for both teams is coming later.

FSU fans can breathe easy

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - FSU forward Jacinta Moore just made a basket, and Florida turned it over on the other end.

FSU is up 80-78 with 5.3 seconds left, and the Seminoles have the ball too.

Less than a minute to go ...

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - FSU is up 78-74 with a timeout on the floor with 57 seconds left.

The Seminoles have the ball after Marshae Dotson's layup trimmed the lead back down to four.

Not so fast ...

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - It looks like I spoke too soon.

Florida just reeled off a pair of baskets in 30 seconds to cut the lead to 76-71. Sha Brooks is heading to the line to try and convert an and-1 to make it a 4-point game.

FSU pulling away

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - With 2:08 left, the Seminoles are in control.

Florida State leads host Florida 76-67.

The Seminoles went on a 9-0 run to take a 74-64 lead before Sha Brooks ended the streak with a three-pointer.

It looks like the Gators will have to start fouling. FSU is a 66 percent free-throw shooting team.

Seminoles get lead back

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Those in attendance waiting for tonight's men's basketball game are getting a pretty good show from Florida and Florida State's women's teams.

FSU has surged back into the lead, taking a 61-57 edge with 10:35 left in the second half.

Florida's offense, which looked unstoppable near the end of the first half, has hit a speed bump.

The Seminoles haven't been able to miss lately, hitting threes and driving to the basket.

FSU creeps back

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Tanae Davis-Cain has scored 8 points in the first four minutes of the second half, upping her total for the game to 22, and cutting the Gators' lead to 48-47.

FSU is going to the line to try and get the lead back with 15:41 to go.

Florida up at the half

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - While everyone in the press room has their eyes glued on Arkansas-LSU, here's a halftime update on the Florida-Florida State women's basketball game:

Florida is up 41-37 after a nice flurry to end the first half.

Junior forward Marshae Dotson leads the Gators with 16 points and six rebounds while Depree Bowden has added 11 points on 3-of-4 shooting from beyond the arc.

Florida State guard Tanae Davis-Cain has a team-leading 14 points on 14 shot attempts.

The second half could continue to go Florida's way if they keep scoring well on fast breaks. If the game reverts back to a defensive duel like it did early in the first half, look for FSU to regain the lead.

Either way, it's clear this one is not over yet.

Bowden, Davis-Cain running the show

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Florida senior Depree Bowden swished a three-pointer, grinned a wide smile and started high stepping back on defense.

Bowden's second three in a row gave Florida a 32-27 lead with 3:52 left in the first half, as the Gators look to snap a string of three losses in four meetings to hated rival Florida State.

FSU junior Tanae Davis-Cain is trying to stop that from happening. She has scored six of FSU's last eight points as this game has turned into a fast-paced affair.

Florida wakes up

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Now we have a game on our hands.

The Gators are on an 11-2 run and now lead 20-19 with 7:50 remaining in the first half.

Coach Amanda Butler's lineup changes worked, as Florida is scoring in transition and getting easy fast-break points.

The crowd is slowly growing as fans are entering the O'Connell Center for the anticipated 8 p.m. men's basketball game between the Gators and Seminoles.

FSU wakes up

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Well, at least one team is getting something going.

The Seminoles have scored 8 straight points to take a 15-9 lead with 11:24 left in the first half against the Gators.

Jacinta Moore, who at 6-4 is the tallest player on the court, has found open space inside for a couple of easy baskets.

The Gators have failed to penetrate the FSU defense so far, but they are bringing in a small lineup now, so we'll see if that can spark something.

Florida, FSU starting slow

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Perhaps everyone is still sleeping off some Thanksgiving turkey.

Florida leads Florida State 7-5 early as the teams are playing what pro-active fans would call "a defensive battle."

From an unbiased perspective, neither team is in a rhythm on offense and most of the points have come from jacking three-pointers.

We'll see if either team gets its energy back after the first TV timeout.

Tipoff upcoming at Florida State-Florida

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - The Gators and Seminoles are set to get it on in the first of three rivalry matchups in three sports over the next 24 hours.

Before they meet in men's basketball and football, the women's hoops teams will play at the O'Connell Center starting momentarily.
