Big XII: Pre-Season Team, Poll Rankings

By Jean Neuberger - October 19, 2006

As lunch is being served here in Oklahoma City, let's take a look at the Big XII Pre-Season Poll and the All-Conference Team.

Here's the Big XII Poll, with Kansas being the team to beat. Kansas Coach Bill Self couldn't vote for his team, so his vote was for A&M, while everyone else picked the Jayhawks.

1. Kansas (11) 121 pts.
2. Texas A&M (1) 109 pts.
3. Oklahoma State 97 pts.
4. Texas 95 pts.
5. Kansas State 76 pts.
6. Texas Tech 68 pts.
7. Baylor 60 pts.
8. Missouri 44 pts.
9. Oklahoma 42 pts.
10. Nebraska 37 pts.
11. Iowa State 23 pts.
12. Colorado 20 pts.

And the All-Conference first team is as follows....

G - Brandon Rush, Kansas (6-6 Soph.) - 13.5 ppg, 47.2% 3-point shooting
G - Richard Roby, Colorado (6-6 Jr.) - 17.0 ppg
G - Acie Law, Texas A&M (6-3 Sr.) - 16.1 ppg, 119 assists during 05-06 season
G - Jarrious Jackson, Texas Tech (6-1 Sr.) - 20.5 ppg, 4.4 rpg, 38.4 mins/game
F - Julian Wright, Kansas (6-8 Soph.) - 8.5 ppg, 56.4% FG shooting
F - Joseph Jones, Texas A&M (6-9 Jr.) - 15.3 ppg, 6.5 rpg

Notice the four guards and no center? Speed is the name of the game in the Big XII this year.

We're opening the afternoon session with Bill Self of Kansas.
