Big Ten: Buckeyes On The Prize

By - October 29, 2006

Greetings from Big Ten Basketball Media Day at the Chicago Marriott O’Hare. Coaches and players and reporters have been trickling into the hotel over the past hour and the action is expected to get underway shortly.

Ohio State, the defending Big Ten champion returning five letterwinners and one starter from a team that finished 26-6 overall, has been selected as the conference favorite in a vote of the media members attending today’s event. (We were asked as part of our credential application.) Wisconsin and Illinois were tabbed for second and third, respectively.

Badgers forward Alando Tucker, a senior from Lockport, Ill., was named the league’s Preseason Player of the Year. The senior, who last season became the first Wisconsin player to lead the Big Ten in scoring since Don Rehfeldt in 1949 and 1950, enters the season as one of just eight seniors in the country with over 1,500 points.

The entire Preseason All-Conference Team is as follows:

D.J. White, Indiana, Sophomore, Forward
Adam Haluska, Iowa, Senior, Guard
Greg Oden, Ohio State, Freshman, Center
Geary Claxton, Penn State, Junior, Guard/Forward
Alando Tucker, Wisconsin, Senior, Forward
