MWC: Voyaging to Vegas

By David Scott - October 25, 2006

SOMEWHERE IN THE AIR BETWEEN BOSTON AND LAS VEGAS – The tourism folks want you to believe “what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas.”

Hang Time won’t allow that to be the case. Not for the Mountain West Conference basketball Media Extravaganza for which we are en route, on your behalf.

We touch down in Sin City around brunch time and are planning on checking in with Lon Kruger’s UNLV Runnin’ Rebels at their 2:30 (local time) practice.

Also, we checked in briefly with former UNLV head man, Jerry Tarkanian on Tuesday and it looks like we’ll be getting some face time with The Shark during Wednesday afternoon as well.

Coach is filming a TV commercial for a Vegas-area car dealer, which we’re contemplating crashing if we can find the shoot’s location. Hang Time can roll like a mean “Key Grip” when needed.

At some point in the late afternoon, we’ll be heading over to MWC HQs at the refurbished Aladdin for some live-blogging from CSTV’s simultaneous coverage of the 9 p.m. – Midnight (EST) “Full Court Press/Media Slam.”

Then on Thursday, beginning at 11 a.m. EST, we will live blog the actual media day portion of the event from a central location in the Aladdin (said spot is believed to be vaguely similar to a $10 blackjack table).

As some of you may know, this is a nascent relationship between this here Blogger and this here Website. Having Vegas be my second sanctioned trip is some kind of twisted joke. Fortunately, I’ve smartened up and I’m doing the two-day/one-night stayover. I’m all about the Blog. And besides, how much damage can I possibly do in 36 hours?
It's all about the Blog. It's all about the blog. . .

* The Hang Time email is up and running again for this trip: cstvhangtimeATyahoo.com

* Big thanks to Rick McCann at the Herald-Disptach for the follow-up to our Ron Jirsa live-blog. We hope to break similar ground on this journey.

* Hang loose and check back often over the next couple of days. (Please Note: Live-blogging from UNLV practice will be dependant on our wireless signal. We're told it's sketchy at best. But we'll get something up before dinner-time, West Coast-style.
