SEC: No More Garden, Contd.

By Doug Kroll - October 26, 2006

Ran out of room on the last post, so here's some more about the Garden and Renaldo Balkman...

Senior guard Tre' Kelley has been in Columbia now for both NIT runs, and he said he's seen enough of the Garden.

"We won the NIT championship twice, so we couldn't do anymore there," Kelley said. "We've seen enough of the Garden, and we just want to make a statement that we can be an NCAA team."

Odom also answered some questions about Balkman, and about how he left school early.

"I was surprised that he went first round, twenty," Odom said. "I had enough advanced knowledge from Isiah Thomas, talking with him and his staff that I was fairly sure that he was going to be drafted...I thought he would go with [the Knicks] other particular slot in the first round. Draft night itself, I was not surprised, because I had prior knowledge.

Asked whether or not he would have benefited from staying another year...

"It'd be hard for me to make a case for him to help himself more," Odom said. "My advice to him before the draft was stay another year and you'll end up being a first round draft choice. He ended up being one anyway, so I could not council him."
