Friars Bounce Back With Big Win

By David Scott - November 22, 2006

PROVIDENCE - A very impressive effort in a bounce-back win for Providence as they beat BC, 73-64 before 10,336 at The Dunkin’ Donuts Center.

The loss by BC should knock them out of the Top 25, bringing the Eagles to 1-2 and spoiling Al Skinner’s Thanksgiving for sure.

The Friars really attacked the basket all night long and despite the inside presence of BC’s Sean Williams (12 blocks), PC was able to get into the paint and score, almost at will. Sophomore Jonathan Kale was huge for PC, as was classmate, Geoffrey McDermott, who managed a double-double (and five assists). PC won the boards battle, 42-31 including 19 offensive boards.

Williams had the Bill Russell/Marcus Camby (UMass days) double-double of 10 rebounds and 12 blocks - with just two points (and two assists, two steals and four turnovers).

Tyrese Rice wound up leading BC in scoring with 19 and eight assists, Dudley had 17 and Sean Marshal lhad 12.

. . . PC shot 40 percent from 3-point land (4-of-10) and BC shot a dismal 22.7 percent (5-of-22).

. . . Check back later for a final wrap-up in our Hang Time Columnette and after that, please enjoy your Turkey Day with best wishes from all of us at

. . . We discovered our sideline reporter friend has a name and it's Shawna Hassett. She did a fantastic job from what we can tell.
