Friday Leftovers

Slim pickings on Turkey day with only seven games on the slate, but here are three results you should probably care about:

  • In a meeting of two probable NCAA tournament teams, Arkansas edged Southern Illinois in overtime at the Old Spice Classic despite putting down just one field goal in the last eight minutes of regulation and just one more in the extra frame. The Razorbacks (3-0) converted 14 straight free throws down the stretch to finish the Salukis (2-1).

  • In the wake of last season’s Selection Sunday snub, Hofstra was everybody's pick to enjoy a breakthrough season out of the CAA. After all, the Long Island university returns one of the nation's most accomplished backcourts in Antoine Agudio, Carlos Rivera and Loren Stokes. But last night’s one-point loss to Hawaii in the first round of the Great Alaska Shootout drops the Pride’s record to 0-3.

  • Third-year Marist coach Matt Brady sure has the Poughkeepsie school on the up and up. The Red Foxes (3-1) collected a power-conference scalp on Thanksgiving with a 63-56 victory over Minnesota. Senior seven-footer James Smith led the way for Brady’s side with 16 points and 13 boards.
