Ready at the Ryan

KINGSTON, R.I. - We're a few minutes from tip and the Ryan Center is slowly filling up.

Just to give some perspective on what the Gaels are facing (besides Rhode Island, a team that likes to run and gun), take a lot at this number: 5,040.

That's the number of career points the Gaels lost to graduation with the departure of Steve Burtt, Ricky Soliver, Marvin McCollough and Kiril Wachsmann. Now you know what they mean when they call this team the Young Gaels.

With the Camper foot injury (which we're hearing will require surgery), it appears the Gaels will start four freshmen with Mike Harris, DeShaune Griffin, Milan Prodanovic and Alejo Rodriguez

. . . Great tidbit we came across in our roaming of the Iona team hotel in Newport: Senior team manager Michael Daley, a Bronx native, was named the Iona Homecoming King this year. Daley slyly hinted that the throne comes with some nice perks.

. . . In the interest of fairness, team managers Jay Judge and Casey Stanley (son of the Voice of the Gaels, Gary) were also working overtime in preparation for tonight's game, including placing the all-important post-game food order for the Gaels.
