Wave That Gold Peak Hanky Proudly

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Both teams began shooting around about 5:30 - the Spartans in their all-green warmups, the Eagles with home white shorts and various maroon, white and black tops.

State’s got much more a of a structured pre-game scheudle, including lay-up lines. BC seems to be more loosely structured.

A few of the faithful BC students (face-painters and non) have entered the student seating section in the Hall of Fame endzone of Conte and for a few moments were razzing the Spartans as they went through warm-ups. They quickly stopped when they saw the size of the State frontline. Better wait til reinforcements come.

. .. The ACC enters tonight slate of ACC-Big Ten challenge games with a 4-2 lead, with five remaining games. The ACC has won all seven previous Challenges and holds an overall 44-25 record (.650). Michigan State leads its league with four victories in the seven previous challenges (against two losses because one game was never played due to a bad floor).

Drew Neitzel is coming off his second straight Player of the Week honor in the Big Ten. The Grand Rapids, Michigan native is leading the Big Ten in 3-point field goals made (3.14 per game) and is fourth in scoring (17.7 ppg).

. . . The Gold Peak Iced Tea Hankies are actually at every seat in the house, including the upper section bleachers. We regret the error in thinking that only seat-back folks would be allowed to wave the gold towels. The towels have two Eagle logos on either side of the Gold Peak logo. We live, in a logo world, friends.

. . . Michigan State as a team is averaging 5.7 blocks per game (40 total). BC as a team has 33 blocks through 4 games (8.1 per game) including 19 by Sean Williams in his first two outings.

. . . We have to apologize for only calling Bill Raftery the Hall of Famer in our first post. Sean McDonough, is also a Hall of Famer - it’s just yet to be determined which Hall he will be entering and when.

Both McDonough and Raftery were still telling stories of Jay Bilas’s hole in one during their recent Hawaii trip.

. . . Roster breakdown: Michigan’s roster features one player from Nigeria, nine form Michigan, two from Ohio, one from Minnesota and one from Wyoming.

The Boston College roster is a bit more spread out (and with ZERO home-staters): one player is from France, one form New Jersey, two from Texas, two from California, one from New Hampshire, one form New York, one from Virginia, one from North Carolina, one form Florida and one from Pennsylvania.

. . . The sneaker battle is being waged between Nike (MSU) and Reebok (BC) tonight.
