Eagles Regain Control

By David Scott - December 02, 2006

AMHERST, Mass. - The Minutemen are more active on defense (the sign of a good halftime speech) and were managing to stay with the Eagles, but a regrouped Eagles team has once again extended its lead to 57-44 with 11:44 left.

Jared Dudley, who had five points, four rebounds and a team-high six assists in the first half, has stepped up his scoring in the second half and now has 10 points for BC. Rashaun Freeman continues to pace UMass with 16.

The re-energization that UMass’s mini-run gave the building has been all but extinguished.

. . . Sean Williams is on the verge of a career-high in scoring - he sits at 14, and 16 (vs. Providence in 2005) is his career best.

. . . BC freshman Shamari Spears is in the midst of another quiet, but efficient game for Al Skinner. Spears entered the night averaging 10 and five in about 22 minutes per game.

. . . Hang Time had the opportunity to sit down with UMass grad and BC Coach, Al Skinner, just before the season started. Over the course of tonight’s game, we’ll drop in some “Al on. . . UMass” highlights of that conversation. Much of what Skinner talks about is especially relevant for tonight’s game, the first to honor Skinner’s former coach, Jack Leaman.

Al on. . . His allegiance

HT: You graduated form UMass and now coach at their biggest rival. When it comes down to it, do you bleed Marron and White or Marron and Gold?
AS: I get paid by Maroon and Gold. It was probably one of Jack (Leaman’s) most awful moments when BC and UMass played.
The fact of the matter is, I had some great moments at UMass, but I always tell my players that college was tremendous for me and I want you to have the similar type of experience. I try and support the UMass program as much as I can, but when it comes down to it, I’ve got to take care of MY family, so that means BC and Maroon and Gold.
