Robert Novak is in the House!

CHESNUT HILL, Mass. - We’re about an hour from tip at Conte and we have our first celebrity sighting of the evening.

Standing in the catacombs of Conte, just outside the Maryland locker room was DC insider, Robert Novak. Novak is an Illinois alum, but his wife and son are Maryland alums.

Novak, a full 90 minutes before tip, was positioned behind the Maryland bench in his red Terrapin sweatshirt. We’re guessing he came on the team bus, seeing as he was so early in arriving to the arena. If you’r e ooking for him on TV, he is between the fourth and fifth seat of the Terp bench.

Mike Gminski, with his left ear hoop earring in tact, went over and shook the hand of Novak and his two friends on either side of him.

. . . And you thought we were just hoop heads. Hah! We can get a little Wolf Blitzer for you when necessary.

. . . Also in the house, as he is for most big BC games, is the Miracle Man, Doug Flutie. Flutie has been mentioned, by the way, a s a possible replacement for Tom O’Brien, the BC football coach who left this week for the head job at North Carolina State. Flutie shared some time with Tim Brando and then spoke with some Terp personnel, including assistant Michael Adams, who shared time at BC with Flutie.

. . . Tim Brando did his pre-game, voice over duties just before 5 p.m. Most of the work was for bumpers that will lead into breaks, but we did catch the ever-popular “Due to time constraints, we now move ahead in the game. . .” That’s used for game replays that are shrunk into two minute broadcast blocks.
