UMass Hangs On for Two Point Win

By David Scott - December 06, 2006

BOSTON - UMass used to Refuse to Lose. On this night, they Refused to Put It Away, but preserved a 56-54 win over BU.

With numerous chances to bury the America East Terriers, the Atlantic10 Minutemen let the Terriers stick around and stick around until a final possession for BU with 19.5 seconds left.

In that possession, BU’s Tyler Morris took a 3-pointer from the top of the key that went in swish - only to have his coach, Dennis Wolff, call a timeout just as Morris released it.

The clock showed 4.2 seconds remaining and BU’s Brian Macon in-bounded from in front of his own bench. The ball went to Carlos Strong who launched a 3-point airball that no one from BU could grab.

UMass didn’t score for the final 4:40 of the game.

. . . Because of our TV commitment on CN8’s “Out of Bounds,” we will have to file our post-game columnette in the late night hours. You can check back for it first thing in the morning. Thanks for joining us and be sure to check back this weekend for more “Hang Time” live-blogging.
