Wimp and Andy and Jeff, Oh My!

CHESNUT HILL, Mass. - The pre-game clock tells us there are 30:00 until tip of this early season ACC match-up.

The traditionally late-arriving BC crowd (forgive us if you’ve heard this before) is, late-arriving. Not to mention the fandom is a bit glum after a demoralizing afternoon loss by the local faves, the New England Patriots (21-0 at Miami).

Couple that with the fact that BC lost its football coach (to an IN-CONFERNECE school), and these BC fans that will fill Conte tonight, could use a little holiday cheer.

. . .Tonight’s game is also on XM Satellite radio, Channel 191, with Andy Demetra on play-by-play and ex-coach Wimp Sanderson on color

. . . D.J Strawberry leads Maryland in scoring with 15.2 ppg and Ekene Ibekwe lead the team in rebounding with 6.9 per game.

For BC, Jared Dudley is averaging a team-best 19.1 ppg and a team-high 9.3 rpg.

. . . Maryland had its 11-year run of NCAA appearances end two seasons ago, but appears poised to return this season with a good core of three senior starters and quality bench contributors. They will, however, be at a bit of a height disadvantage as BC has been starting two 6-foot-10 post players (Adam Oates and six-blocks-per-game Sean Williams). Maryland has no contributors listed that over 6-foot-9.

. . . A handful of NBA socuts have requested credentials for the game, including Toronto, Boston and Minnesota.

. . .Good buzz in the arena and along press row as some national web heavyweights are in the house with ESPN.com’s Andy Katz and FOXsports.com’s Jeff Goodman. Also working the game for FOX Sports, as the on-site co-host, is ex-coach Perry Clark.

. . . The teams have two common opponents thus far: Maryland beat both Vermont and Michigan State, while BC lost to the Catamounts and beat the Spartans (both at home).
