Friars Back In It

By David Scott - January 23, 2007

PROVIDENCE – The Friars have chipped away at the Villanova lead and now trail 57-51 with 11:41 left in the game.

Villanova coach Jay Wright received a technical foul at the 11:41 mark and with his ‘Cats leading, 57-51. It prompted a chant of “Shut Up, Jay Wright,” from the creative student section. One of the two technical free throws were converted to cut the lead to five.

. . . PC came out a bit cold, hitting on 2 of its first 8 shots in the second half.

. . . Dwain Williams has 17 points with 13:56 left to play, two off the freshman’s career high (against Fairfield).

. . . Curtis Sumpter continues to play in brief spurts.

. . . We’re keeping one eye on the scoreboard as Division I’s last winless team, the Iona Gaels, held an eight-point advantage at the half over Fairfield and could be on their way to the first win in 19 tries.
