Halftime Observations

By David Scott - January 04, 2007

PROVIDENCE - In addition to playing some inspired defense in the first half, Providence wound up out-rebounding Marquette 20-9.

Both Herbert Hill and Dwain Williams scored 11 each for PC, who got no bench scoring, which could be a concern going forward.

MU shot 35.7 percent from the field and PC managed 54.2 from the field, including 4 of 7 from 3-point land. MU managed just 2 of 13 from 3-point land.

. . . If Marquette is going to get back into this game, they will need to A) rebound better and B) shoot better. Duh. They also might want to step up the defensive pressure on PC’s ball handlers - the Friars had twice as many turnovers in the first half than MU did (10-5)

. . . PC had assists on 10 of its 13 field goals.

. . . Tonight’s officials are Jamie Luckie, les Jones and Brian O’Connell.
