Hello from Husky-ville

By David Scott - January 03, 2007

BOSTON - Happy New Year “Hang Time” hangers and welcome to Matthews Arena on the campus of Northeastern University for tonight’s Colonial Athletic Association match-up between the host Huskies (3-9, 1-0) and the Old Dominion Monarchs (8-4, 1-0).

The teams have met only twice (last season was Northeastern’s first in the rising CAA) and the series is tied, 1-1. Northeastern avenged a regular season loss by eliminating the Monarchs form the CAA tournament in last year’s quarterfinals.

. . .Northeastern has not lost at home in 11 straight contests (dating back to last January 5). The Huskies are on a three game skid entering tonight’s game and ODU is coming off a Dec. 29 loss at home to Winthrop.

. . . Northeastern game notes are found here and ODU notes are here.

. . . It's good to back in an arena after our holiday respite. Matthews is an historic old building and also the home of NU hockey (that smell you may sense wafting is rotting hockey equipment). It is the world's oldest ice hockey arena and the basketball team plays its conference slate in the old barn with the woden ceilings. It's a building - with "stately Victorian" lobbies - that has hosted rodeos, presidents and even saw Babed Ruth work out in hockey scrimmages with the Arena A.C. team.
