Duke Gets Its Much Needed Sixth League Win

By David Scott - February 14, 2007

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – A tremendous late effort by BC wasn’t quite enough to overcome the deficit that Duke had built in the early portion of the second half as BC falls, 78-70 before a packed house at Conte.

Gerald Henderson scored a key basket with the shot clock expiring for Duke as he penetrated and laid in a bucket with about 35 seconds left in the game. It put the Duke lead at eight and sealed the monster win for the Blue Devils, who are now even at 6-6 in league play (19-7 overall). BC falls to 9-3 in league and 18-7 overall.

. . . David McClure fouled out for Duke with 2:20 left, sending Sean Marshall to the line for two free throws. Marshall, on the Eagles’ prior possession had nailed a 3-pointer to cut the lead to 74-66. Marshall converted both free throws to cut the lead to 74-68 with 2:20 left in the game, but that was as close as the Eagles could get.

. . . Sean Marshall finished with a game-high 23 points, Tyrese Rice has 22. The Blue Devils got 18 from McRoberts, 15 apiece from Paulus and Nelson and 12 from Scheyer.

. . . Duke hosts Georgia Tech on Sunday at 1 p.m. on CBS, and BC hosts UNC on Saturday at 9 p.m.
