Eagles Wrap it Up

By David Scott - February 03, 2007

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Gold uniforms are 1-0 for Al Skinner as the Eagles used a tremendous first half of basketball - and a wonderful late surge - to down the Hokies 80-59.

The Hokies cut the lead to 13 with 4:00 left in the game, but BC and Jared Dudley were too much to overcome. After the Hokies trimmed it to 13, Dudley came down court and nailed a deep 3-pointer to again put the lead at 16. It was the final dagger on a day of daggers from the senior heart-and-soul of teh Eagles.

Dudley finished with 30 points and Tyrese Rice added 20. For Va. Tech, Zabian Dowdell finished with 17 and Deron Washington had 18(all but two in the second half).

. . . "Over Rated" chants began with about 1:30 left in the game. Probably deservedly so.

. . . Dudley made the motion as if someone needed to cool him down after his fourth 3-pointer of the game which gave him 30 points on the day on 4 of 5 from beyond the arc and 11 of 15 from the field.

. . . Va. Tech coach Seth Greenberg has had a perplexed look for much of the game and could never find the right line-up to make a run at BC. With three minutes left in the game he was seen with his face in his hands, seated on the Hokies bench.

. . . Our plan for post-game, as always, is to work the locker rooms and press conferences and then file a columnette later in the afternoon.

. . . Be sure to join us again on Monday night as we travel to Storrs, Conn. for UConn-Syracuse in a Big Monday match-up with big implications for both Big East schools.
