Thirty Minutes til Tip

By David Scott - February 03, 2007

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – As is usual at Conte Forum, the crowd arrives fashionably late-borderline-actually late, and that includes the late arriving students, who are only numbering about 40 with 30 minutes ‘til tip.

BC may be in the ACC (its second year), but its fans still have trouble playing the role of real ACC fans.

. . . The game is being broadcast on TV via Raycom Sports and on satellite radio at XM Channel 193.

. . . Click on over to this Seth Greenberg column for a look at how the Hokie Head Man sees the rest of the season unfolding.

And, in the interest of equal time, check out this nice one-on-one with Sean Marshall conducted by Geoffrey Kehlmann at the BC site.

. . . Today’s officials are Mike Wood, Mike Eades and Bernard Clinton.

. . . Va. Tech’s senior Zabian Dowdell - the 6-foot-3 “Hokie from 6-3 Pahokee, Fla.” - leads Va. Tech in scoring with 18.2 ppg, 3.6 apg and 2.4 steals per game. He is sixth in the league in scoring, second in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.22) and tied for second in steals.

. . . The Eagles will retire the jersey (not a gold one, we presume) of Gerry Ward, Class of 1963, who scored 1,112 points in 71 games to go along with 947 rebounds.

. . . Some pronunciation help for the tough to say Hokies roster:

Jamon Gordon ..........................ju-MON
Zabian Dowdell ...ZAY-be-un dow-DELL
Robert Krabbendam .......KROB-uhn-dahm
Cassell Coliseum ..........................Castle

A.D. Vassallo .....................vuh-SIGH-oh
Cheick Diakite .............sheck jha-KEY-tay
