Tip in Fifteen

By David Scott - February 17, 2007

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – We’re about 15 minutes before tip and the Eagles entered the court to a rousing ovation, coming through the tunnel behind the visitor’s bench. The BC fight song was then played, as is customary. The upper bowl has filled in nicely, but the wine and cheese crowd is still late in getting to their lower bowl seats.

. . . BC is in their gold uniforms with maroon shooting jerseys, while the Tar Heels are in their sky blue unis with matching shooting jerseys.

. . .Still a late-arriving crowd, despite the hubbub surrounding the GameDay crew being here and it being a key ACC match-up. But, as we often point out when we’re here at BC, the Eagles fans are still not accustomed to big games.

. . . Erin Andrews is sitting in her reporter’s seat, just in case you thought I lost track of her.

. . . A Tar Heel fan has infiltrated the student section in the ednzone near the BC bench. He was just booed roundly and it’s 50-50 whether he will get out of Greater Boston with his Tar Heel gear still in tact.

. . . Dick Vitale came out to chants of “Dickie Vee, Dickie Vee,” with about 35 minutes until tip. He then signed a few autographs and handed out a sheet he has with information on it regarding the Jimmy V Foundation. You can get more information on the handout at jimmy.org or dickvitaleonline.com.

Vitale’s long-time stats man, The Scwabby (Howie Schwab) is also getting autograph requests, which is nice to see. “Howie Schwab, Stump The Schwab,” is how he signs his name.

. . . The sneaker war tonight will be waged between Nike (UNC) and Reebok (BC).

. . .Tonight’s officials are Jamie Luckie, Mike Wood and Sean Hull. It is the same crew that was slated to work the Duke-BC game on Valentine’s Day night, but Wood had trouble getting into Boston with weather issues and was replaced by Joe Cameron-Diaz.

It’s worth noting because Jared Dudley had some not-too-kind words for the officiating after the Duke game and Al Skinner was not very pleased with the crew either.
