Welcome to Conte Forum

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Welcome to the Conte Forum on the campus of Boston College for tonight’s ACC match-up between the host No. 21 Eagles (18-6, 9-2) and the visiting (and desperate for a win) Duke Blue Devils (18-7, 5-6). Duke is unranked for the first time in 10 years and Wednesday’s game snaps a string of 380 straight games played as a ranked team for the Blue Devils.

It is also the official debut of what we’re calling, “Tobacco Road North,” as BC faces Duke and UNC tonight and Saturday evening.

A wimpy Nor’easter has hit Boston, but the brunt of the blow is going north and west of the city. Still, icy conditions and fierce wind welcome Coach K and his crew for a monster match-up, especially for the Blue Devils, who need some quality road wins to reinforce a diminishing resume.

. . . Duke game notes are here

BC game notes are here

. . . The game will be broadcast on ESPN with Mike Patrick on play-by- play, Dick Vitale on color and Doris Burke handling sideline duties. It is the first of two Vitale trips to BC in the next four days as he will be back for BC-North Carolina on Saturday night.

. . . An odd night of hoops in Boston – some may even say it’s a tidal change. Over at the TD BankNorth Garden, the Boston Celtics are trying to end an 18-game losing streak againt Milwaukee. It is probably Boston’s best chance in the next two weeks for a franchise-worst streak breaking win. (It’s also the Celts last game before the All-Star break and their lone home game until Feb. 28, with five west coast games before a home game with the feisty Knicks.)

Boston College basketball is THE true basketball story of the night, something that couldn’t have been thought of 20 years ago when Larry Bird roamed the parquet.

. .. Some more Tobacco Road/Boston symmetry to consider: The Red Sox owner, John Henry, today announced a partnership with NASCAR's Roush Racing.
