A-10: Harmful Huddle

By Matthew Shapiro - March 08, 2007

ATLANTIC CITY - After watching six and a half basketball games here, I think I have learned the secret of what makes fans, players and coaches the angriest: referees huddling after a questionable call. Sure, the officials are doing the right thing by conferring in these situations, but during that quick powwow, people on both sides are simply getting riled up and gaining ammo for saying the refs are being indecisive. When the officials leave the huddle and make the call, the complaints are worse than ever, because the refs have made themselves vulnerable by showing they weren't 100% sure what the right call was.
