Big XII: Baylor Runs Past Mizzou as Day 1 Ends

By Jean Neuberger - March 09, 2007

Again, my apologies to the viewing public, as I was across the street covering the OU women's triumph over Baylor. Here's the lowdown on the Baylor team that won tonight, as Scott Drew's club ousted Missouri in impressive fashion, winning 97-83.

Baylor was red hot from the field, shooting 34-of-54, and was led by Curtis Jerrell's 31 points. Three other Bears were in double figures, while Missouri had five players of their own that scored 10 points or more.

One thing is for sure: besides the face that Baylor was red-hot, the Bears had little trouble against Missouri's frantic press. The Tigers were able to run the modernized version of "40 Minutes of Hell", mostly because it works whenever you're able to score, and when Missouri scores 83 points, they had ample opportunities to enforce their press attack. However, it didn't phase Baylor at all....97 points? That's an outstanding performance by the Bears, which is something they'll need when Texas comes to the Ford Center tomorrow night to tackle this Baylor squad.

So the slate is set for tmorrow's quarterfinals at the Ford Center.

We'll start with Oklahoma taking on the Big XII champion Kansas Jayhawks, followed by Bob Huggins and Kansas State taking on Bob Knight and Texas Tech. In the evening session, Texas A&M tackles Oklahoma State and their orange-clad masses, and Texas closes the day against Baylor in a Lone Star Showdown.

We'll be there for all four games tomorrow night. Until then, good night from Oklahoma City!
