Big XII: OU Advances, beats Cyclones 68-63

By Jean Neuberger - March 08, 2007

The first game is in the books, and in a close battle between #8 and #9 teams, it's the #9 Sooners who have prevailed over Iowa State today in Oklahoma City, 68-63.

The Sooners fans leave happy, relieved that their team isn't the first one out of a tournament hosted in their own backyard (Norman is about 18 miles from OKC). The Cyclones made a great rally, but when someone needed to step up, it was Nate Carter, who scored 22 points and was the driving force behind the Sooner victory.

As for Iowa State, they'll go home, while their fans will walk across the street to watch their ladies take on Texas A&M tonight in the Big XII women's semifinals.

That's the story for now from Oklahoma City...stay tuned as Texas Tech and Colorado have taken the floor and will be playing in a little over 30 minutes from now.
