Big XII: Welcome to Poke-lahoma

By Jean Neuberger - March 09, 2007

With all the orange-clad Cowboy fans in attendance tonight, we're now officially in Poke-lahoma, as Pistol Pete is at halfcourt, leading the cheers for the Cowboys as they prepare to take the court for their showdown with Billy Gillispie's Texas A&M Aggies.

The lowdown on this game is simple. OSU has played A&M twice this season, and both times they've been throttled. The Aggies won 67-49 over the Cowboys in College Station, and then beat OSU 66-46 in the confines of Gallagher-Iba Arena. This is a game, and opponent, that A&M should be fairly comfortable with.

So how does OSU win this game? For one, push the tempo. Scoring in the 40s both times is not going to win you games, unless you're Princeton. You've got to frustrate the Aggies by playing faster than the tempo they prefer to play. Second, this game will be affected one way or the other by the play of A&M guard Acie Law IV. Law, who's even the face of A&M notepads here at the Big XII Tournament, is the point guard and floor general for the Aggies, and might be the best player in the conference, if not the country.

We're all set to go here at the Ford Center in Oklahoma's Oklahoma State and Texas A&M in the third quarterfinal of the 2007 Big XII Tournament!
