Buffalo: VCU Pressers Informative and Intriguing

By David Scott - March 16, 2007

The most-attended and anticipated press conferences of the day have concluded with Virginia Commonwealth's players (Jesse Pellot-Rosa, Eric Maynor and B.A. Walker) and coach Anthony Grant providing equal elements of newsworthiness and entertainment.

First, the newsiest item: Junior center Wil Fameni suffered a broken nose in the Duke game and according to the AP story it was suffered in a collision with a teammate. We tend to to think it had something to do with a Duke player, but regardless it is the second time in the las three Duke contests that an opposing center has wound up broken and bloodied.

Head coach Anthony Grant said that Fameni went with team trainer Todd Craft to get fitted for a Tyler Hansbrough-esque mask this morning and they hope to have a mask ready for Saturday's game. Grant wasn't sure if it was the "Hansbrough Model," but he did say it would be a clear mask.

. . .Pittsburgh has garciously agreed to open its practice beginning at 4:45, so we'll venture out to courtside just so we can stop our battling laptop duel with the New York Post's incomparable Mike Vaccaro. We're guessing Vacs is a bit sick of looking at our ugly mug for the past three hours.

. . . We now know where NC State coach Sideny Lowe has been getting his supply of birght red sportcoats: The HSBC arena. Security personnel in the arena have the same hued jackets as their uniform toppers.

. . . Okay we're heading out to the court. See you in a few.
