Buffalo: Halftime Stats and Observations

By David Scott - March 15, 2007

VCU started the game hitting 1 of 3 from 3-point land, but went to half having hit 5 of 9, made up of Jesse Pellot-Rosa's 2 of 3 form beyond the arc and Jamal Shuler's duplicate 2 of 3. VCU was led by Eric Maynor's 10 points and Duke was led by Josh McRoberts's 12 points.

Duke is up 20-10 in paint scoring and VCu holds an 11-4 edge on fast break scoring. The rebounding edge went to Duke, 18-16 and Duke also four more turnovers than the Rams (9-5). The Rams have totaled six steals by six different players.

. . . If VCU is to capitalize on its end-of-the-half momentum, they will need to continue to stroke the 3-pointer and get out a bit and run on the Blue Devils.

. . . The difference between this Duke team and recent editions is that the past few teams of Coach K would have already put this game away. This team hasn't yet learned how to do that, and that goes back to Coach K's harping on the youth of this squad.

. . . Greg Paulus has nine points but is just 2 of 7 from the field.
