Buffalo: Just Call Him Vee

By David Scott - March 14, 2007

Bit of a comical scene from the ODU student-athletes' press conference when a reporter asked the Monarch's senior Lithuianian forward, Valdas Vasylius how to pronounce his name.

After saying it once - "Val-das Vah-sillly-us," the reporter asked him, "One more time?" The big man complied and gave the same pronunciation. But the reporter (an electronic type) still wasn't getting it.

We're guessing he goes with "Vee," the way the Monrachs do.

. . .Davidson is in the final minutes of its open practice and the Wildcata are certainly getting after it. Dell Curry's son, Stephen, the SoCon Freshman of the Year can really stroke it. Curry, who is smallish at 6-1, 180, ranked second nationally among freshman scoring leaders (21.2 ppg) behind only Texas's Kevin Durant. he hit 41 percent of his 3-pointers on the year (117 of 138).

. . . The press conferences are getting considerably more crowded as the day wears on and we're about to head back for the Maryland media availability.

. . . Former coach, Bill Foster, working the games for CBS radio headed back into the bowels to conduct some interview.

. . . Fans are trickling in and probably approaching the 100 area as Old Dominion prepares for its 12:45 court time.
