CAA: En route To Richmond

By David Scott - March 03, 2007

NEWARK INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT, GATE 114 B BOARDING AREA - With all the criticsm being leveled at JetBlue the last couple of weeks, we're here to to tell you that Continental Airlines deserves some razzing as well.

We say this because the masterminds at Continental have delayed our connecting flight from Newark to Richmond for 100 minutes because they have no crew ready to staff Flight 2369. The "equipment" is here and has been for some time. It's cleaned, gassed up, de-iced (via the sun) and ready for boarding. Yet we are waiting for a crew coming in from Montreal. I'm not in the air travel business, but it would seem to me that matching crews with flights would be a pretty rudimentary order of business.

What does this mean to you, the valued Hang Time Hanger-on? It means we'll most likely miss all of the noon tip between No. 1 seed VCU and No. 9 seed Georgia State, but should be courtside for the tip of No. 4 seed Drexel and No. 5 seed Notheastern. It's only discouraging in that we have a feeling VCU is ripe for the picking and it would be nice to be in the building if the top seed falls.

Fortunately there's plenty more hoops to be played in Richmond and unless Continental decides to pull the crew, cancel the flight or otherwise disrupt my (our) morning, we'll be in da house to bring you all the action.

. . . In the meantime, you can check out the league's awards run-down, headlined by Hofstra's Loren Stokes's Player of the Year honor. VCU Coach Anthony Grant edged Bill Coen for Coahc of the Year and Northeastern freshman, Matt Janning was named Rookie of the Year.

. . . We spoke briefly to Drexel assistant coach Tony Chiles on Friday afternoon and he said the Dragons have a good few days of practice and are "ready to get after it."

. . . We're boarding, which is a good sign.

See you in Richmond. Oh, and HEY, Jerry Palm - how'd that frosty one go down post-game?
