CAA: Halftime Stats and Observations

By David Scott - March 04, 2007

RICHMOND - What started out as a nip and tuck affair unraveled a bit for Drexel in the second half of the first stanza as the Dragons were hit with a barrage of VCU 3-pointers (5 of 8) and the overall hot shooting of the Rams (52 percent).

VCU holds a slight rebounding edge, 15-12 but has had two more turnovers than the Dragons (14-12).

Drexel has been led by Frank Elegar's 8 points while VCU has received 10 points from Pellot-Rosa, nine from B.A. Walker and seven points and six rebounds from Michael Anderson.

. . . Drexel will need to work the ball inside more and 0-for-8 Dominick Mejia is going to either need to find his groove or cease shooting - he accounted for 8 of Drexel's 14 misses from the field.

. . . Bench depth is also proving to be a factor as VCU has gone 10 deeep and Drexel has used just seven players - although the Dragons hold a 6-3 edge in reserve scoring.

. . . The 26 combined turnovers are an unseemly number and we're guessing whoever can hold onto the ball with more regularity is going to advance to Monday night.
