CAA: Halftime Stats and Observations

By David Scott - March 04, 2007

RICHMOND - The stat sheet does indeed suggest exactly what we thought it would. Check out these numbers:

Mason holds a 21-11 rebounding edge; Maosn shot 58 percent in the half to 28 percent for the Monarchs; Mason scored 20 points in the paint to just six for ODU; Mason hit on 3 of 8 from 3-point land, ODU connected on just 1 of 11.

. . . Dre Smith of Mason leads all scorers with 14 points on 6 of 10 form the field and 2 of 4 from beyond the arc. ODU is led by Drew Williamson's six points.

Freshman Louis Birdsong had seven rebounds for Mason in seven minutes of play. That's efficiency at its finest. No ODU player has more than three rebounds (7-footer Sam Harris).

. . . ODU will need to come out hot early to cut into the Mason lead and, like in our first game of the day, the trailing team is going to need to do it through 3-point shooting and tenacious D. But we're thinking Mason is too smart and too well coached to allow that to happen.

. . . Your referees for today's game are Bernard Clinton, Curtis Blair and Mike Eades.

. . . We once again have a battle of Nike schools in our sneaker war.
