CAA: Halftime Stats and Observations

By David Scott - March 05, 2007

RICHMOND - Cinderella is 20 minutes from returning to HER ball.

George Mason leads 31-27 at the half and was aided by a late run of 10-6 to close out the stanza.

. . . Wil Fameni leads all scorers with 11 points for VCU and Mason continues to get contributions from all eight of its players who have seen minutes thus far. Both Folarin Campbell and Jordan Carter have six each for the Patriots and Dre Smith, John Vaughn and Will Thomas have five each.

. . . Mason has scored 20 of its 31 in the paint and holds a 10-2 edge on second chance points as they have out-rebounded the Rams 15-9 (VCU has just two offensive rebounds). VCU has scored 14 points in the paint and has hit just 1 of 7 from 3-point land. VCU attempted seven more free throws in the half (8 of 10) than Mason (2 of 3).

. . . There have been four lead changes and six ties and the biggest lead of the half was held by Mason at 31-26 with :32 left in the half.

. . . If VCU is going to get back in this one and use its home crowd to its advantage, they will need to crash the offensive glass and find some consistency from the outside. Mason can continue to do what it's been doing, which is go inside to its big men and crash the boards.
