CAA: Panthers Keep It Close

By David Scott - March 03, 2007

RICHMOND - Georgia State has trimmed the halftime deficit to five, but VCU continues to keep a comfortable lead and maintains a full-court pressure defense. VCU leads 53-45 with 11:49 left in the game.

With 13:30 left, the Panthers cut the lead to three, 48-45 and the crowd is getting back into it. Part of that crowd involvement is centering on the Panthers' diminutive guard Ron Larris who a couple of hecklers have started to calling "Papa Smurf," "Webster," "Midget" and, in tribute to Gary Coleman, "Whachyoo Talkin' 'bout Willis." Larris is taking it in stride and even smiled at the first Midget taunt.

. . . It appears VCU's Jesse Pellot-Rosa was injured in the first half and has not seen action in the second half. he seemed to be favoring his right ankle when the team came out of the locker room.

. . . The Panthers Leonard Mendez leads all scorers with 19 points.
