CAA: Thirty Minutes 'til Tip

By David Scott - March 04, 2007

RICHMOND - We're courtside in the Coliseum with Drexel on the floor going through warm-ups. Fans are filtering in and the Drexel pep band is already a few tunes into its pre-game. The VCU pep band is still getting set up and tuning their instruments.

The scene outside the arena was starting to heat up as we ventured in with fans lined up at various gates and the ticket scalpers doing their thang.

. . . VCU is 6-5 all-time against Drexel and has won the last three straight. Be prepared for a close one as six of the last nine meetings have been decided by three points or less.

. . . The Rams have taken the floor but it's still too early to say whether senior Jesse Pellot-Rosa, who was injured in Saturday's game and played just eight minutes, will be starting today.

. . .VCU's 25 wins (25-6) are the second-highest in school history (the 1984-85 team won the Sun Belt en route to a 26-6 mark and an NCAA berth.

. . . The newest addition to press row is the most self-important man in all of sports jounralism, John Feinstein. Heaven help us all in the post-game pressers.

. . . No sign yet of our guy, Pav, the Dry Erase message board madman who we were happy to make the acquaintance of on Saturday. He's a huge (pardon the pun) VCU guy, so we're expecting some witty messages and words of encouragement.
