CAA: VCU Strecthes It Out

By David Scott - March 03, 2007

RICHMOND - VCU has assumed control of this one with a 58-45 lead at the under 8:00 media timeout.

Balanced scoring and the full-court pressing style of CAA Coach of the Year Anthony Grant (in his first season) is proving too much for the Panthers to handle.

The potential for a re-match with Drexel looms if VCU can hold this lead and Drexel can dismiss Northeastern in the second game which is scheduled to tip at 2:30. Drexel lost in the teams only meeting, but it was the game that Frank Elegar was suspended for (albeit belatedly) and the Dragons are eyeing the rematch with great anticipation. But first they need to take care of the Huskies whom they have beaten twice already this season.

. . . We've been told by Drexel travlleing party members that team manager and inspiration, Calvin Hicks, has not made the trip due to illness. Hicks was profiled recently at and it's no secret that Bruiser Flint has a special place in his heart for Hicks, who is known to scream - at a very high pitch - DEEEEEEE-FEEEEEENNNNNNSSSSSSEEEE.

Hang Time wishes Calvin all the best and we're hoping to get a bobblehead just as soon as we can.
