Pac-10: It's Over...

By Jason Owens - March 09, 2007

...the Washington-Washington State game (which Washington State won 74-64), the mascots fiddling with my munchy food and a long but outstanding day of Pac-10 basketball.

Now I'm not saying that I didn't have a good time today -- not by a long shot -- but the Washington State band is celebrating good times (come on!) right now and I'm celebrating right along with them that there's not another game tonight.

With that said, there's another exciting day of basketball on the docket tomorrow that will hopefully match the intensity in the Staples Center today. But before we move on to Friday's action, I would like to thank following:

-Cal's Ayinde Ubaka and USC's Nick Young, for providing those big-time performances and clutch shots that make March what it is

-The USC Song Girls and UCLA dance, team for making my view that much brighter during the breaks from basketball

-All the California schools, for providing two of the most exciting games anywhere in college basketball today

-The UCLA fans, for getting the Staples Center crowd off its collective butt and into the action, even though their beloved Bruins trailed for much of their game and eventually fell short in overtime

-The USC fans for finally taking a cue from their arch-rival fans when the USC-Stanford game picked up some momentum

-Arizona -- well ,for nothing except failing to show up yet again in a big-time game and proving me wrong that Arizona-Oregon would be the most exciting game of the day

As for tomorrow, we'll watch to see if Cal can continue its run through the Pac-10 Tournament and actually start a legitimate conversation about making the NCAA Tournament. If they get through Oregon, they'll be one win away from doing just that. But if the same Oregon team that shellacked Arizona shows up on Friday, it won't be an easy task.

We'll watch to see if USC can use its "home court advantage" to fight through a tough Washington State squad that swept them during the regular season.

And we'll also watch to see if the UCLA ticket-holders sold their seats or decided to leave them empty to spite USC fans. Here's hoping for a packed house on Friday. Until then, I'm out.
