SEC: Heath on Life Support?

By David Scott - March 09, 2007

A fairly confounding story from the Mobile Press-Register has been brought our attention, reporting that Arkansas head coach Stan Heath will be fighting for job survival as his team takes on Mississippi State in tomorrow's first semi-final. Heath's in his fifth year at Arkansas and has gone from nine wins, to 12, to 18, to 22 to this year's 20 9and possibly counting).

Maybe we're naive, but that seems to be pointing the program in the right direction.

. . . Florida AD Jeremey Foley just walked by press row trying to figure out how to get up to his seats. We trust he'll figure it out soon enough.

. . . Mike White, Ole Miss's outstanding (and quickly rising) assistant stopped by the Hang Time perch and he looks confident that his Rebs will give LSU all they can handle.

The talk of Heath possibly losing his job makes no sense to me, either. Although, that's not the strangest one I've heard in the last week.

Reasons for Heath in hot water are 1) attendance...crowds are down to 10,000 a game, which is NOT up to UA standards. 2) losing games UA shouldn't lose to..lack of consistency. 3) team chemistry always an issue for the last 3 years, and 4) 1 NCAA trip in 4 years. Heath needs to make the NCAA tourney, or he's in trouble. Win tomorrow, and he's probably safe.

They have a much less experienced team this year, so the lack of consistency is to be expected. They lost three key guards from last season's team, one of which was an early defection to the NBA.

Maybe so...but the fans have lost patience, esp. after the Tenn. game when UA had 11 turnovers off inbounds passes. This program won a lot in the 90s...they want titles of some sort and they want them now.
