SEC: Tubby Thumping Continues

By David Scott - March 11, 2007

The local paper, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution does a fabulous job of blanket coverage of the tournament (as they will for the Final Four). One feature in the Tournament setcion is a daily "Today's Topic," where fans are surveyed for thoughts on a pertinent subject. Sunday's question was, "Your team is eliminated and you live out of town. How tempting was it to go home?" Most of the six respondents were disappointed but one in particular, Ed Cleveland, a Kentucky fan, was despondent. "We just got here today (Saturday), unfortunately. We love this tournament but coudln't get here until today and the 'Cats are gone. It's the same old, same old. Tubby [Smith] is just not getting the job done."

It's a sentiment that is being echoed by a lot of the blue-clad fans we've encountered (many of whom were at our motel/hotel).

. . . We're about ten minutes from tip and probable starting line-ups look like this:

For Arkansas, Charles Thomas, Sonny Weems, Steven Hill, Gary Ervin and Patrick Beverley.

For Florida, Joakim Noah, Corey Brewer, Al Horford, Lee Humphrey and Taurean Green.

Beverley again is the lone freshman of the starting 10 and the Humphrey is the lone senior. Everyone else is a junior.

. . . We're still lobbying for Corey Brewer as the SEC Tourney MOP should the Gators win. He's got 37 points in two games and his presence all over the court has been immense. Said one of the Ole Miss coaches after Saturday's 22-point performance, "I didn't know Brewer was that good."

He's not alone.
