Winston-Salem: Party Hats And Flip-Flops

By Matt Meyers - March 15, 2007

Last year, most of the Boston College basketball team (with the exception of Jared Dudley) shaved their heads to show solidarity heading into the NCAA tournament. This year, it is headbands. It has become a tradition for the Eagles and the seniors get to choose what they are going to do. Next year, it is John Oates turn and he has some interesting ideas.

"Party hats and flip-flops," the junior said.

The Eagles should be donning party hats tonight after the way they played defense down the stretch. After Martin Zeno scored for Texas Tech to make it 72-70 Boston College with 6:04 left, they would not convert another field goal until Charlie Burgess's lay-up with 1:39 on the clock.

"Our defense wasn't as good as it needed to be," BC coach Al Skinner said. "But down the stretch it improved a lot."

According to Jared Dudley, the Eagles' size was able to wear down the Raiders.

"They went small with four guards and we tried to matchup," Dudley said. Tyrelle (Blair) came in and gave us a good inside presense."
