Winston-Salem: Rivarly Renewed

By Aaron Fitt - March 17, 2007

This might be the heart of ACC country, but Saturday's first game in Winston-Salem has a distinct Big East flavor. The throw-back-the-clock affair between Georgetown and Boston College will even feature a player named Patrick Ewing, though Michael Adams is long gone from Boston College, and the Ewing in question is the son of the Hoya legend of the same name. And even though BC is now in the ACC, the Eagles and Hoyas have a long history from their Big East days. They've met 70 times before, with Georgetown holding a 43-27 advantage in the series but Boston College having won the last two meetings, including a 64-49 decision in 2004-05. That was Boston College's final year in the Big East, and it was John Thompson III's first year at Georgetown.

"The way the schedule worked out that season, we only played them once," Thompson said in Friday's press conference. "It's not like me and my group has a long, storied history of playing against Boston College. Georgetown obviously does, but the way they go about their business still has a Big East feel to it."

The hostilities will be renewed at 5:45 p.m.
