Report: Durant is NBA-Bound

By - April 10, 2007

The Dallas Morning News is reporting that Texas swingman and consensus national player of the year Kevin Durant has decided to enter the NBA Draft just weeks after wrapping up a freshman campaign that established a new standard for first-year collegians.

Draft projection site DraftExpress slates the 6-foot-9, 225-pound native of Suitland, Md., to be the second overall choice when the NBA teams make their selections on June 28. Ohio State's Greg Oden, who has yet to announce his decision to stay in school or enter the professional ranks, is projected to be picked ahead of Durant.

But even without Durant, the gifted 18-year-old with the 7-foot-6 wingspan who averaged 25.8 points and 11.1 rebounds, the Longhorns should contend with Kansas for the Big 12 title. Rick Barnes returns a healthy group of contributors from this season's squad -- including standout point guard D.J. Augustin -- while power forward Gary Johnson headlines another first-rate class of rising freshmen.
