Pan Am Trials: Unofficial Team (Plus Two)

By David Scott - July 15, 2007

Just before 10:30 a.m. EST on Sunday, the USA Basketball website confirmed the unofficial list we have been reporting (below).

USA Basketball has yet to release the Pan Am Games team, but Hang Time has learned the roster looks a whole lot like the following. This is an unofficial list, compiled by Hang Time after some serious lobby time at the team hotel on Saturday night, of the 14 selections to the Pan Am Games for Team USA. The official list will be posted at USA Basketball shortly. Two more cuts will be made this week to bring the roster to the required 12.

Drew Neitzel (Michigan State)
Wayne Ellington (UNC)
Joey Dorsey (Memphis)
Roy Hibbert (Georgetown)
DJ White (Indiana)
Eric Maynor (VCU)
Josh Carter (Texas A&M)
Maarty Leunen (Oregon)
Bryce Taylor (Oregon)
Kyle Weaver (Washington State)
Shan Foster (Vanderbilt)
Scottie Reynolds (Villanova)
James Gist (Maryland)
Derrick Low (Washington)

"The trials were as competitive as any we have ever had. With the group of 14 finalists there is really good balance. We've got good inside guys, we've got good wing players and the point guards have really come on," said selection committee chariman, Jim Boeheim, in the press release. "I don't know that we have a superstar type player, but we've got really good balance and the players worked very hard and they look like they'll be good teammates, guys who will play well together which is tremendously important."

"This was definitely the most difficult choice we've ever had to make, but I just love this group. I think we have great options. We've got shooters, we've got penetrators, we've got size, we've got post people - a guy like Hibbert could be a game changer," said USA and Villanova University head coach Jay Wright. "It's just a really diverse group that has great personality and I think the committee did a great job of putting together a really strong team. Our staff is excited about working with this team and getting them to come together and think like a team."

. . . Our biggest surprise omissions would include Tasmin Mitchell and Chris Lofton (although Lofton sure did look a lot smaller than we had remembered him from the SEC Tournament). Jon Brockman may have done too little too late and Mario Chalmers did too little all camp-long.

. . . We're hitting the road to get back home to Boston but we'll have a Trials Camp re-cap on Monday, so check back. And thanks for joining us to get a glimpse at some of the top college players in the land.

Just thought you would like to know that you are unlikely to have a fan base at Washington State after making such a terrible mistake saying that Derrick Low went to U-dub.

Shame, shame.
