Alarm Hasn't Gone Off Yet

ST. LOUIS -- It seems like the alarm hasn't gone off yet. We're through the first half of the coaches' pressers and what you get is a lot of coach-speak...
Keno Davis, the son of Dr. Tom Davis, took over for his dad at Drake. He is the most talkative guy in the bunch, but I'm a little concerned for his team. He mentioned their "work ethic," which, if you look up the translation in the Coach-English Dictionary, means "no talent."
Kevin McKenna is the new coach at Indiana St and he sees his biggest challenge as getting the guys to buy in to what the new coaches want, and they to have success doing it.
Ben Jacobsen of Northern Iowa talked some about his team's trip to Thailand to represent the US in the World University Games. He felt that was a great experience because of how hard his guys worked to get ready and the pride of representing your country. The injury bug has bitten his team. Carlton Reed is out for six weeks, but expected back for the Iowa game. Kwadzo Ahelegbe hurt his shoulder and will miss for 3-4 weeks.
Bradley coach Jim Les is very enthused about his back court and with good reason. Most coaches like to downplay even the good things about their teams a little bit, but Les referred to PG Daniel Ruffin as "one of the best in the country" and SG Jeremy Crouch as "one of the best shooters in the country."
Les was also the only one to interject some humor into the proceedings. When asked about the new coaches, he said, "I'm finally moving up the seniority ladder. I almost got to speak at the coaches' meeting."
On the other hand, Creighton's Dana Altman looked like he lost his best friend. He started out with a rather resigned, "We have a long way to go." He added, "Hopefully, as the season progresses, we'll develop and have a decent year." Maybe he should switch away from decaf.
