Georgia Loses Brown For Good

By Josh Herwitt - October 26, 2007

You sure would be hard-pressed to find a smile on Georgia coach Dennis Felton's face right now.

Not after having to dismiss Takais Brown from the Bulldogs Friday for violating a team policy.

The senior, who averaged 14.2 points per game last season, had already been suspended for the first nine games of the 2007-08 season for disregarding the school's new attendance policy, but now the forward from Flint, Mich., officially won't spend any time in a Georgia uniform this year.

Brown, however, will still be able to finish his degree at Georgia if he chooses to do so.

"I'm both disappointed and sad today to release Takais from the team," Felton said. "He can continue as a student here at Georgia and will remain on scholarship. It is my hope that Takais continues his work toward earning his degree, which is certainly within his reach this summer."

While Brown's initial suspension was due to violating a Georgia athletic association policy, Felton confirmed that Friday's dismissal was the result of a team policy being breached. However, the fifth-year coach did not provide any further detail about the particular team policy that was broken.

More Problems For Mizzou's Butterfield

Just a little more than a week after being arrested for third-degree domestic assault involving an incident with his girlfriend, Missouri forward Darryl Butterfield was charged with peace disturbance Friday.

While assistant prosecutor Andrea Hayes told the Associated Press that the first offense was never filed, the senior faces a maximum penalty of up to six months in jail and remains indefinitely suspended from the team.

The Tigers, meanwhile, play their first exhibition game Nov. 3 at home versus Missouri-St. Louis before opening the season in the O'Reilly Auto Parts CBE Classic with a first-round game against Central Michigan.
