Mayo Addresses Rumor Mill

By Jason Owens - October 13, 2007

LOS ANGELES -- After the scrimmage ended on the court, the real show started in the locker room when the subject of Daniel Hackett's broken jaw came up. Hackett reportedly suffered the injury during a pick-up game from an errant elbow thrown by Mayo, but rumors have circulated that the elbow was malicious.

"I haven't heard that," Mayo said. "I don't understand these rumors. What does Bill Walker have to do with an accidental elbow?"

The rumor rose from a high school game in which Mayo's teammate and friend Walker (now with Kansas State) had an altercation with Hackett on the court and the fact that Mayo and Hackett are competing for playing time.

As soon as the discussion started, Mayo called for Hackett to address the issue as well.

"There's never been anything," Hackett said. "We're just hard competitors. There were no hard feelings. We were just playing basketball."

Head coach Tim Floyd didn't seem too stoked on the conversation, telling his players to stop talking about it.

"We're ready to move on," Floyd said.

As far as the rest of the night went, Mayo was all smiles.

"I feel great," Mayo said of playing tonight. "It's a tremendous atmosphere here. We played hard. Everybody had fun tonight and that's the main thing."
