Xavier Is In The House

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. -- Xavier has arrived.

It's been a tough travel day for the Musketeers, picked to finish first in the Atlantic-10.

"I'm definitely a little tired," said Xavier's Drew Lavender. "Long day. It's OK."

Xavier will be more than OK this season. It very well could win the league title once again with a strong team from top to bottom.

Lavender, the lightning-quick 5-foot-7 guard, Stanley Burrell and Josh Duncan are a formidable trio, which will lead this team on a daily basis.

Last year, the Musketeers went 25-9 and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. They have won 20 or more games in 10 of the last 11 years and have made it to the NCAAs in six of the last seven years.

"I'm very proud of what these kids have accomplished at Xavier and I think we have a great nucleus back once again," said fourth-year coach Sean Miller. "The kids have worked exremely hard and listen to what the coaches are telling them. They're a great group to be around. I'm looking forward to this particular group of players this season."

Xavier has a challenging non-conference schedule, something which should benefit the players in the latter part of the season.

"We like those types of games," Lavender said. "Coach (Miller) is great about motivating us to step up, too. Those games help."
