Fight To The Finish

LAS VEGAS -- There is a big boxing match in this city later tonight, but BYU and UNLV are playing the undercard by trading blows in the championship game.

BYU has grabbed a 37-33 halftime lead as UNLV narrowed the gap when Mareceo Rutledge put home an airball of teammate Kendall Wallace just before the buzzer.

UNLV's Joe Darger completed a rare four-point play as he hit a three-pointer while being fouled and converted the free throw.

BYU is shooting 60 percent from the field, its second-best first half shooting performance this season behind the Pepperdine game. Lee Cummard and Sam Burgess have nine points each.

The big culprit for the Cougars in expanding its lead has been turnovers. They have eight, which UNLV has converted into 11 points.

Curtis Terry is leading UNLV with 10 points. The Rebels are shooting 40 percent.

BYU's tournament success thus far has been predicated on strong second-half performances, but UNLV is intent on not allowing that trent to continue.
